Why I Love Radio

I have been asked to write a blog post about why I love radio. Radio has been apart of my life for the last 35 years.  I remember having a bad day and coming home from school and turning on my alarm clock to Energy 108.

Listening to the radio let me escape the day-to-day business that was elementary school and high school. My favourite music was always pop and dance music growing up before I was introduced to Country.   My Dad and I would go on rides on Saturday’s growing up and the radio was always tuned to Energy 108.  My favourite DJ was always Sam Cook. (And no, I’m not just saying that because she’s one of my teachers), But she always had fun when she was on air. She made you feel like you were apart of her family while she was talking and telling her stories.

Let’s go back to the car rides. Every single Saturday my father and I would go for a drive to Niagara Falls and we always listen to the radio. Even with the invention of “Spotify”, “Amazon Music” and “Apple Music”. My Dad’s favourite station is 97.7 HTZ Fm. Mine is KX94-7.  Ever since KX94-7 has come on air, it’s been awesome getting to know all the different DJ’s that they have working there.  My favourite DJ or “Jocks” as KX calls them is Mike Fuller. Mikey always connects with his audience in a special way. I hope one day I can have the same sort of cadence that he has on the air when I get a job in radio.

My dream job in radio, which I would absolutely love is to be on the air with Joe Bowen, the voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs, or even as their first female PA Announcer. My dream would be to get that call soon, maybe in some way I can put a call to action and have them reach out to me in some way.   I look forward to having my own show in the future and maybe being able to talk about local sports and people involved in them.  Taking a Radio Broadcasting and Creative Content program will help me hone my skills so that when I finally make it on the radio, I will be professional, productive and will have a following that I will love to stay in contact with. In Conclusion, I love radio because it keeps everybody going. You could have the worst day and listen to the radio and a song comes on and your day gets better.   I hope you all find the same thing.
